Use correct footwork when shooting a layup. For a right-handed layup, plant your inside (left) foot, jump upward off the left foot as the right knee goes up with the right arm extending up to the hoop. Lay the ball off the upper corner of the square on the backboard with the right hand. For the left-hand layup, shoot with the left hand, and all the footwork is just the opposite.
